President sends assistance to RI troops in Lebanon

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has sent an assortment of working tools, including laptops, stationary and other things, to the Indonesian contingent in the United Nations peace-keeping force in Lebanon, Mission chief Col AJP Noch Bola said here on Saturday.

He said the goods were flown to Lebanon on Saturday by a Hercules C-130 of the Indonesian Air Force`s Abdurrahman Saleh Squadron 32 based in Jakarta.<>

"Besides laptops and stationary , the President also dispatched medical supplies and instruments for use by the Indonesian troops in Lebanon," Noch Bola was quoted by the state news agency as saying.

In addition to the President`s assistance, the National Defense Forces (TNI) Headquarters had sent food supplies and cigarettes.

Meanwhile, Air Commodore Imam Sufaat, assistant to the deputy TNI chief of general staff for operations, said the TNI would continue to take part in UN peacekeeping operations to create security and stability in Lebanon.

"We are now preparing fresh troops for assignment in Lebanon to replace personnel who have been serving there for some time," Imam Sufaat said, adding the 850 replacements would leave for the Middle Eastern country in November this year. (dar)
